A presidential commission resolved the accident took place on a day that was 15-degrees colder than any previous launch … and that the 36-degree launch-time temperature was a contributing factor. Vivid memory that will never go away. Jan 28, 1986 was my 12th birthday and we were watching the launch on tv in Mrs Treat’s social studies class.
